The birdbath usually has more to do with parasite removal than cooling, although at 43C cooling is probably just as important!
Out of curiosity, how far were you from your subject? Those guys are /jumpy/.

I know about the parasite stuff but that didn’t fit in with the story line I developed for the week
Oh, I’m about seven metres from the bird, camera stuck through a partially opened glass door. You’re correct about the jumpy. I had to be extremely still for around an hour to get these shots.
So sorry; I know fully well that story line is always /way/ more important than mere mundane facts! It /is/ all about the cooling!
Of course – author’s fancies are always more important than the facts.
