@ Bunk, In the Australian vernacular, someone can be as “Silly as a Galah”. Consequently we get silly people being simply called “Galahs”, or even “Flaming Galahs”. This has extended itself to “Those Galahs in Canberra”. It is extremely derogatory and there has been a move to protect the image of the original bird – probably begun by some flaming galahs in Canberra! Or perhaps the galahs in the Chardonny set in Sydney.
