Australian Election

Australia voted today.

In what may be the beginning of a new era, Kevin Rudd has replaced John Howard as our Prime Minister.

It seems John Howard has even lost his own seat in Parliament. Just the second time in history that a serving PM has lost his seat at an election.

No, I am not going to grieve. In my opinion Howard led my country back to the 1800’s in its ethics and work practices.

I am looking forward to the future.

  1. I am not Australian and so it’s none of my business, really, but YES! YES! YES! RAAAH!

    *Ahem*

    Sorry about that.

<No need to be sorry, dear Reed. The enslavement of one man is the enslavement of mankind, and John Howard’s Government went a long way down the path to enslaving all Australian workers!

  2. And I am right there, looking with you.
It can only get better, maybe we reach the 1900’s soon with kevin? 🙂

It’s great news, isn’t it, John. Actually, the early 1900’s were not such a bad time. The “No Saturday Trading” movement had won, the Unions were strong and responsible and Gallipoli was still in the future!

  3. Good riddance to an evil man who thought he could use our fears to manipulate us.

He used his senate majority to ambush us with “WorkChoices” (The boss’s way or the highway), he unjustly imprisoned an hard-working doctor as a “terrorist” (well, the doctor’s name was Mahommed) and he learned all he ever knew about global warming from opinion polls – too late.

I see you West Australians have elected another Green senator. Well done! It looks like my 10 hours handing out Green how-to-votes in the Queensland sun nearly got there, but not quite. At least we got 3 Labor senators up. Sadly Ron Boswell is still there.

WA had some strange results, not a lot of logic in them! Well done to Queensland for the big swing which has given Australia back its hope.

  4. I watched the telecast with breath held in anticipation last night … I did NOT enthuse to the extent you thought I might. I simply and earnestly said “Oh, well done” and “Hooray” gently and thoughtfully. I did not go “WAAAAAHOOOO” and “YEEEEHHHHHAAAAA” and “YEAH, GET OUT OF HERE, YOU NASTY OLD MAN!” and “COME ON, MAXINE” … I didn’t, I swear it! I also admit to telling great, big porky pies 😀

    HUGE great big porkies!

  5. At about 10 p.m. on Saturday night the country’s sewers were working overtime as more than a few little shits were electorally flushed down the bog.

    A wonderfully expressed truth, Andrew.
