Refugee Boat Arrivals

20th Nov, 2015 – 16 refugees plus 1 crew arrive in a 25ft “green and white” vessel in Flying Fish Cove, CI. Towed over the horizon by BP. Arrived back on West Timor on Nov 27.

24th Sept, 2015 – 21 Pakistani, Indian and Bagladeshi asylum seekers adrift off Ciduan, South Java for thee days. Returned to Indonesia.

20th July, 2015 – unknown number of people, off the Dampier Coast near Western Australia. (will be updated as further information comes to hand.)

May 2015 – 65 people; 54 Sri Lankans, 10 Bangladeshis, one person from Myanmar and 5 crew en route to New Zealand, intercepted off Ashmore Reef and sent back to Indonesia. Rescued by the Indonesians and taken to the Island of Rote.

April 2015 – 50 Vietnamese refugees intercepted “North of Australia”. Returned to Vietnam via HMAS Choules

March 2015 – Unknown number of refugees from an unknown origin. Probably one boat, maybe several. (Alluded to in Yahoo News report, 17th April 2015)

24th March 2015 – 15 refugees reported arrived Christmas Island 18th Mar, returned to Indonesia under escort.  6 Iranians, 2 Nepalese, 7 Bangladeshis.

9th Feb 2015 – 4 Sri Lankans (probably Tamils) returned from Cocos Island to Sri Lanka via the Sri Lankan Navy.

29th Nov – 38, including 6 children, Sri Lankans intercepted close to Indonesia and 37 handed back to Sri Lankan Navy.

21st Nov – 34 Sri Lankan and Indian refugees reported at Yap, in Micronesia, headed for Australia

25th Sept – 1 vessel reported at Kupang in Timor with 7 Indian refugees and 3 crew. Washed ashore.

28th July – 24th Sept – zero arrivals, 45 attempts stopped at source.

27th June – 153 Tamil asylum seekers reported ex India. 32 women, 37 children. 300Km NW from Christmas Island.

26th June “Sithumina” wi5th 41 people (and a dog) on board intercepted by OSB.
