A Bit of Perth

Again in Northbridge, just over the railway line, in William St.

The magnificent Great Western Hotel. Now known as the “Brass Monkey”.

It is described as, “A very good and virtually intact example of a gold rush period hotel. Its handsome balconies, with cast iron decoration and corner tower surmounted with a pointed dome, enhance and give prominence to its corner location.”

  1. One of my favourite buildings in Perth … in fact, the area is pretty good at retaining their older buildings. Except for the ones my great-grandmother, my great-great-grandfather, and my great-great-great-grandfather owned. They are all gone … mainly demolished by clever plans to “up-date” everything for no reason other than it will make someone a lot of money. Usually not my family. 😦
