A Bit of Perth

Built in 1835, just six years after the foundation of the Swan River Colony, William Kernot Shenton’s Mill was situated across the river on Point Belches.

The area is now known as South Perth.

In 1859 the Mill ground its last flour and the area become a picnic and swimming spot. It was here, in 1862 that Buff’s GGGGrandfather, Colour-Sergeant John Smith, had a heart attack while swimming and died. Far from his birthplace in Cavan, Ireland.
