On the flood plain of the Swan River at South Perth there is an apparently insignificant stand of trees.
The experienced West Aussie eye has no trouble picking the foliage and tree size as Paper Barks or, to the more scientific, melaleuca. These are a sure sign of a swamp. Not what one would expect to find in such a manicured parkland, overlooked by high-rise condominiums.
Yet here is a board walk over what, after a dry winter, is a dried out swamp. Quiet and peaceful, with the birdsong magnified by the over-arching trees. The sounds and hurry of the nearby city all hushed.
The perfect place to flee the worries of the day.
