This list is based on what is being reported in the MSM and what I can find from a couple of specialist sites. This is to give a layman’s impression of what is going on and may say more about the MSM than the facts.
The updated, weekly figures I have collated. This will be updated each week.
To stop this posting from becoming as large as a Tolstoy novel, in future I will drop off any daily information more than about a week old.
11th Oct; Some vague information released by the Morrison Military Machine.
In a media conference today Herr ÜberGrossenFührer Morrison was forced to admit that a vessel had been apprehended at Cocos Island. He was able to duck such details as how many refugees there were and from where had they come. I have shown that vessel and a “+” sign to represent the number of people who arrived at Cocos. I will update the chart as soon as I have further details.
The administrator of Christmas Island Jon Stanhope has credited Labor’s Papua New Guinea deal for a dramatic reduction in asylum seeker boat arrivals, even though he is uncomfortable with the policy. Mr Stanhope says since the policy was introduced in July, the number of boat arrivals has gone from about five a week to just one. “There certainly has been a significant change in activity, certainly since the beginning of July the number of boat arrivals, the number of asylum seekers arriving on Christmas Island has decreased,” he said.
But he is highly critical of his own party’s handling of the issue and its current policy position, even though it appears to be working. “Is that the indicator of success that any asylum seeker that gets to Australia is immediately deported? Or is a key performance indicator or an indicator of success that you acted with compassion, that you acted with humanity?” Mr Stanhope says many within Labor are uncomfortable with the party’s policy and he is hoping the new leader – to be announced on Sunday – will change tack. “There’s a high level of concern, regret, and I think it’s fair to say, anger,” he added.
And that was where I came in. I too was VERY uncomfortable with the Manus Island solution. Yet it does appear to be cutting the number of people getting onto boats and dying. I should be happy. I’m not!
The xenophobic Australian fear of “the other” is put up in bright lights for the rest of the world to see and wonder at. Any relief I have at the apparent saving of life is overcome at the shame of our collective reaction.
Of course I also realise that history will be re-written and the new Government will take all the credit for this slowing of new arrivals.
6th – 10th Oct; No information released by the Morrison Military Machine.
Despite a close watch being kept on maritime movements there have been no apparent arrivals, no reported sinkings en route and utter quiet on the Christmas Island front. Mike Smith (spit) spotted HMAS Warramunga doing some apparent search manoeuvres 50Km to the North of CI on Tuesday around 7pm WST. It will be interesting to hear what the Great Poo Bah General says on Monday.
Back on the third of this month there was an interesting announcement. The Coalition Government said it would set aside 500 places for Syrian refugees in response to an appeal from the United Nations Refugee Agency to help accommodate displaced Syrians. It will also settle about 800 Afghan interpreters and their families who had helped Australian forces in Afghanistan, continuing a process started under the previous Labor government. The places for Syrians and Afghans will come from within the government’s existing humanitarian program.
“The government’s policy of denying permanent visas to those who arrived illegally by boat will enable Australia to continue offering targeted resettlement to those most in need,” Mr Morrison said in a statement. The Abbott government has pledged to renew the focus on places for refugees waiting overseas, as opposed to asylum seekers who come to Australia by boat. It has also promised to reduce the annual humanitarian intake from the 20,000 places per year offered by Labor to 13,750.
So let’s get this straight. Herr ÜberGrossenFührer Morrison is cutting the humanitarian places by 6,250 places, allocating 1,300 (10%) of the remaining places to two specific groups yet is to “continue offering targeted resettlement to those most in need.”
The numbers of refugees waiting in Indonesia is going to increase, the “Push” factors are not going away and the pressure to become a “Boat Person” will continue and grow.
Unless we hear news of Indonesia sending refugees back to home countries en masse, this week’s lull in arrivals will not last.
5th Oct; No information released by the Morrison Military Machine.
NOTE. It is the weekend and I expect more arrivals from Indonesia over the next 48 hours. I will update this as necessary.
A report in the ABC Online News this morning states that. “Sri Lanka’s navy has intercepted a boat full of asylum seekers who were reportedly heading to Australia. . . . . The asylum seeker boat had been floating off the south-west coast of Sri Lanka for several days after its engines failed. Military sources say there were 70 people onboard the boat and they had paid money to be taken to Australia. “The navy responded to a distress message sent out on Thursday and the passengers were rescued, and brought ashore on Friday,” a naval official told reporters at the southern port of Galle. Navy spokesman Kosala Warnakulasuriya confirmed the rescue, saying that investigations are underway. Prime Minister Tony Abbott has vowed to act swiftly to implement a central plank of his election campaign to “stop the boats”, sending a strong signal to people-smugglers. However, many Sri Lankans have said they were still hopeful of taking a boat ride to Australia to start a new life. In many cases asylum seekers are trying to escape poverty at home.
They did not reach Australian waters. They will not be reported in the statistics kept by Herr ÜberGrossenFührer Morrison’s tame soldier. Yet they are asylum seekers. They set out for Australia on a boat. I am including them in the “Timeline’s” statistics.
Tony Abbott has NOT stopped the boats. ( By the way, has anyone else noticed the incongruity of having an Army General running what is basically a Naval operation?)
A closer reading of the ABC report shows a couple of interesting spinning bits.
“. . . asylum seekers are trying to escape poverty at home” See, they are not REAL asylum seekers.
“. . . Prime Minister Tony Abbott has vowed to act swiftly to implement a central plank of his election campaign to “stop the boats”, sending a strong signal to people-smugglers.” Oh how strong is this new PM of ours. Only one small problem. The people smugglers are ignoring him!
No one talks about it any more but Asylum Seekers are not pulled to our “shores” by lenient treatment. Asylum Seekers are just like us. Most of us want to settle down in familiar surroundings and live a quiet life with those we love around us. Asylum Seekers are PUSHED our way by fear and danger and persecution.
Not that we have “shores” any more. Our entire nation has been excised from our continent and all associated islands.
4th Oct; No information released by the Morrison Military Machine.
So far this morning there are no reports of any boat detections. It is early and the weekend approaches. Updates will be made if necessary.
However this thought bubble was found floating out of Herr ÜberGrossenFührer Morrison’s office door. Unwritten yet adding to the poisonous miasma which wafts from this Australian Supremacist’s presence.
“Here in Australia we live in a little bubble where we know we are the only nation on Earth being invaded by hordes of schemingly evil illegal asylum-seeking invaders. We Australians know the correct response to these happenings. We impose more and more, crueller and crueller punishments on those “lucky” enough to reach our shores. Actually, they are no longer our shores. Our Government has removed Australia from itself. A way of taking any legal recourse from these unwelcome arrivals.
Which makes the Italian solution so pathetically ridiculous. Sometimes we accidentally hear of a trickle of these terrible scum dying in an attempt to flee the turmoil in Northern Africa failing to reach Europe and having their boat sink underneath them. Fancy having a Day of National Mourning for 130 of these scum of the Earth who drowned attempting to illegally and feloniously save their lives by fleeing Eritrea for the comforts, safety and Bunga Bunga parties of Italy .”
I apologise for bringing some sick levity into this terrible situation which is a world wide problem. But if I didn’t have an occasional wry laugh, I would be unable to hide my shame at being an Australian and sharing this land with the selfish and uncaring people who encourage this cruel, psychopathic attitude. And we are supposed to feel good that our Government has now decided to allow 500 of the 1.3 million Syrian refugees come to Australia. Such generosity.
End of rant. I feel sick!

It seems there has been a lull in People Smugglers’ activities. Not for the first time. Back in August there was an eight-day period where no Asylum Seeker boats were detected. I am waiting for the predictable regular weekend rush over the next few days.
I continue to be concerned about the way the Australian Navy cuts its AIS (Automatic Identification System) for much of the time they are at sea.
From the Marine Traffic Site “AIS is initially intended to help ships avoid collisions, as well as assisting port authorities to better control sea traffic. AIS transponders on board vessels include a GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver, which collects position and movement details. It includes also a VHF transmitter, which transmits periodically this information on two VHF channels (frequencies 161.975 MHz and 162.025 MHz – old VHF channels 87 & 88) and make this data available to the public domain. Other vessels or base stations are able to receive this information, process it using special software and display vessels locations on a chart plotter or on a computer.
I can understand a naval vessel not wanting to advertise its presence in times of conflict but when involved in allegedly humanitarian services surely it needs to be visible to nearby vessels.
Having said that, I have spotted ACV Triton parked at Ashmore Reef several times in the past week.

30th Sept; The weekly Morrison Military Machine press conference took place this morning. The ABC claims the statement from Morrison about Saturday Morning’s tragedy was his first. WRONG!!!! The head of Sovereign Borders is still on leave!
Gordon Thompson from Christmas Island has reported that 80 refugees were disembarked last night.. He tweeted “Approx 80 men women children disembarked 8 -9.30 CI time rescued by 2 RAN patrolboats”. Several people were following the tracks of Maryborough and Armidale and suspected they were on an interception mission, possibly search and rescue. Gordon added that no vessel came with the patrol boats so either is was sinking when found or sank shortly after.
29th Sept; The Morrison Military Machine was apparently overcome with grief at the loss of life on Saturday Morning and broke its self-imposed silence. The ABC reported that The Minister for Concentration Camps, “Scott Morrison, has issued two statements rejecting survivors’ claims that Australian authorities took more than 24 hours to respond. He said authorities received the first call on Friday and coordinated the initial search and rescue operation.“
Hmmmm – Would it surprise anyone to know that a Naval Vessel, possibly HMAS Ballarat, was busy dropping 44 refugees off at the Indonesian sea border “In the early hours of Saturday Morning”. So a vessel was in the area on Friday. Yet it went nowhere near the doomed boat. OK, so it was within Indonesia’s territorial waters but I’m sure, somewhere in the Laws of the Sea, there is a section which over-rides territorial water rights if lives are in danger! For Morrison to make the panicked statements he did on Sunday reeks of guilt and culpability!
Tell me, Mr Morrison, if I may credit you with sufficient humanity to be a “Mister”. How do 50+ deaths on YOUR watch, caused by YOUR orders compare to four deaths from a pink batts scheme. Which were caused, not by a Governmental agency, as these 50+ deaths were, but by private contractors?
28th Sept; No information released by the Morrison Military Machine.
DROWINGS UPDATE (2) - The Guardian is reporting that “Survivors of a boat that sank off Java claim the Australian embassy ignored a distress call. Twenty-two asylum seekers have been confirmed as drowned but authorities in Indonesia fear that number may rise to more than 70.“
Mornings like this leave me very depressed. Waking to the news that 22 people have drowned, about 30 are missing and 25 people rescued. These unfortunate human beings will not be recorded lists provided by The Minister for Concentration Camps as they will not reach camps under his jurisdiction. Instead they will be glossed over and forgotten as soon as possible. They will be in MY list. They were people on a vessel who were at sea trying to get to Australia!
DROWNINGS UPDATE. Latest reports (11am WST) are that up to 70 people have drowned.
Meanwhile, Australian authorities were overnight attempting to return a second group of 31 asylum seekers to Indonesia after rescuing them at sea. The Australian Customs ship, ACV Triton, had been given permission to enter Indonesian waters to offload 31 rescued asylum seekers. It will be the second time since yesterday that Australian rescue authorities have returned asylum seekers to Indonesia. The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) told its Indonesian equivalent Basarnas the “preference is for a transfer at sea” to Indonesian authorities.
Earlier, another vessel had issued a distress call 40 nautical miles off Java on Thursday morning.
44 asylum seekers and two crew members were on a boat which issued a distress call 40 nautical miles off Java on Thursday morning. Suyatno, the head of operations at the Jakarta office of Indonesia’s rescue agency Basarnas, says his agency did not have the capability to reach the boat. The Australian Navy intercepted the vessel and then advised Basarnas that it would drop the asylum seekers off. In the early hours of Friday morning an Indonesian rescue crew met a Navy ship off the coast of Java and the asylum seekers were handed over. It is understood the handover took place just outside the 12 nautical mile limit of Indonesian territorial waters. That is three vessels and 150+ people in the space of 24 hours which have all got into difficulties and have had their occupants returned to Indonesia. Very conveniently staying off the list of “arrivals”. Once again, Australia has done nothing to ease the problem of the NUMBER of refugees in existence. We have simple closed our eyes and our hearts and our borders. In other news, bureaucratic stupidity is taking over at the top of the “Sovereign Borders” organisation. After just a week in the job, the three-star general in charge of operation borders had taken temporary leave and Defence Force vice chief, Air Marshal Mark Binskin, is stepping in temporarily to oversee Operation Sovereign Borders.
Last night I dreamed
Of a 22 manned purple victory
Last night the deep blue nightmare
Took another 22 victims down
