This list is based on what is being reported in the MSM and what I can find from a couple of specialist sites. This is to give a layman’s impression of what is going on and may say more about the MSM than the facts.
The updated, weekly figures I have collated.
This will be updated each week.
To stop this posting from becoming as large as a Tolstoy novel, in future I will drop off any daily information more than about a week old.
4th Oct; No information released by the Morrison Military Machine.
So far this morning there are no reports of any boat detections. It is early and the weekend approaches. Updates will be made if necessary.
However this thought bubble was found floating out of Herr ÜberGrossenFührer Morrison’s office door. Unwritten yet adding to the poisonous miasma which wafts from this Australian Supremacist’s presence.
“Here in Australia we live in a little bubble where we know we are the only nation on Earth being invaded by hordes of schemingly evil illegal asylum-seeking invaders. We Australians know the correct response to these happenings. We impose more and more, crueller and crueller punishments on those “lucky” enough to reach our shores. Actually, they are no longer our shores. Our Governemnt has removed Australia from itself. A way of taking any legal recourse from these unwelcome arrivals.
Which makes the Italian solution so pathertically ridiculous. Sometimes we accidentally hear of a trickle of these terrible scum dying in an attempt to flee the turmoil in Northern Africa failing to reach Europe and having their boat sink underneath them. Fancy having a Day of National Mourning for 130 of these scum of the Earth who drowned attempting to illegally and felonniously save their lives by fleeing Eritrea for the comforts, safety and Bunga Bunga parties of Italy .”
I apologise for bringing some sick levity into this terrible situation which is a world wide problem. But if I didn’t have an occasional wry laugh, I would be unable to hide my shame at being an Australian and sharing this land with the selfish and uncaring people who encourage this cruel, psychopathic attitude. And we are supposed to feel good that our Government has now decided to allow 500 of the 1.3 million Syrian refugees come to Australia. Such generosity.
End of rant. I feel sick!
3rd Oct; No information released by the Morrison Military Machine.
It seems there has been a lull in People Smugglers’ activities. Not for the first time. Back in August there was an eight-day period where no Asylum Seeker boats were detected. I am waiting for the predictable regular weekend rush over the next few days.
I continue to be concerned about the way the Australian Navy cuts its AIS (Automatic Identification System) for much of the time they are at sea.
From the Marine Traffic Site “AIS is initially intended to help ships avoid collisions, as well as assisting port authorities to better control sea traffic. AIS transponders on board vessels include a GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver, which collects position and movement details. It includes also a VHF transmitter, which transmits periodically this information on two VHF channels (frequencies 161.975 MHz and 162.025 MHz – old VHF channels 87 & 88) and make this data available to the public domain. Other vessels or base stations are able to receive this information, process it using special software and display vessels locations on a chart plotter or on a computer.
I can understand a naval vessel not wanting to advertise its presence in times of conflict but when involved in allegedly humanitarian services surely it needs to be visible to nearby vessels.
Having said that, I have spotted ACV Triton parked at Ashmore Reef several times in the past week.

1st Oct; No information released by the Morrison Military Machine.
30th Sept; The weekly Morrison Military Machine press conference took place this morning. The ABC claims the statement from Morrison about Saturday Morning’s tragedy was his first. WRONG!!!! The head of Sovereign Borders is still on leave!
Gordon Thompson from Christmas Island has reported that 80 refugees were disembarked last night.. He tweeted “Approx 80 men women children disembarked 8 -9.30 CI time rescued by 2 RAN patrolboats”. Several people were following the tracks of Maryborough and Armidale and suspected they were on an interception mission, possibly search and rescue. Gordon added that no vessel came with the patrol boats so iether is was sinking when found or sank shortly after.
29th Sept; The Morrison Military Machine was apparently overcome with grief at the loss of life on Saturday Morning and broke its self-imposed silence. The ABC reported that The Minister for Concentration Camps, “Scott Morrison, has issued two statements rejecting survivors’ claims that Australian authorities took more than 24 hours to respond. He said authorities received the first call on Friday and coordinated the initial search and rescue operation.“
Hmmmm – Would it surprise anyone to know that a Naval Vessel, possibly HMAS Ballarat, was busy dropping 44 refugees off at the Indonesian sea border “In the early hours of Saturday Morning”. So a vessel was in the area on Friday. Yet it went nowhere near the doomed boat. OK, so it was within Indonesia’s territorial waters but I’m sure, somewhere in the Laws of the Sea, there is a section which over-rides territorial water rights if lives are in danger! For Morrison to make the panicked statements he did on Sunday reeks of guilt and culpability!
Tell me, Mr Morrison, if I may credit you with sufficient humanity to be a “Mister”. How do 50+ deaths on YOUR watch, caused by YOUR orders compare to four deaths from a pink batts scheme. Which were caused, not by a Governmental agency, as these 50+ deaths were, but by private contractors?
28th Sept; No information released by the Morrison Military Machine.
DROWINGS UPDATE (2) - The Guardian is reporting that “Survivors of a boat that sank off Java claim the Australian embassy ignored a distress call. Twenty-two asylum seekers have been confirmed as drowned but authorities in Indonesia fear that number may rise to more than 70.“
Mornings like this leave me very depressed. Waking to the news that 22 people have drowned, about 30 are missing and 25 people rescued. These unfortunate human beings will not be recorded lists provided by The Minister for Concentration Camps as they will not reach camps under his jurisdiction. Instead they will be glossed over and forgotten as soon as possible. They will be in MY list. They were people on a vessel who were at sea trying to get to Australia!
DROWNINGS UPDATE. Latest reports (11am WST) are that up to 70 people have drowned.
Meanwhile, Australian authorities were overnight attempting to return a second group of 31 asylum seekers to Indonesia after rescuing them at sea. The Australian Customs ship, ACV Triton, had been given permission to enter Indonesian waters to offload 31 rescued asylum seekers. It will be the second time since yesterday that Australian rescue authorities have returned asylum seekers to Indonesia. The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) told its Indonesian equivalent Basarnas the “preference is for a transfer at sea” to Indonesian authorities.
Earlier, another vessel had issued a distress call 40 nautical miles off Java on Thursday morning.
44 asylum seekers and two crew members were on a boat which issued a distress call 40 nautical miles off Java on Thursday morning. Suyatno, the head of operations at the Jakarta office of Indonesia’s rescue agency Basarnas, says his agency did not have the capability to reach the boat. The Australian Navy intercepted the vessel and then advised Basarnas that it would drop the asylum seekers off. In the early hours of Friday morning an Indonesian rescue crew met a Navy ship off the coast of Java and the asylum seekers were handed over. It is understood the handover took place just outside the 12 nautical mile limit of Indonesian territorial waters. That is three vessels and 150+ people in the space of 24 hours which have all got into difficulties and have had thier occupants returned to Indonesia. Very conveniently staying off the list of “arrivals”. Once again, Australia has done nothing to ease the problem of the NUMBER of refugees in existence. We have simple closed our eyes and our hearts and our borders. In other news, bureaucratic stupidity is taking over at the top of the “Sovereign Borders” organisation. After just a week in the job, the three-star general in charge of operation borders had taken temporary leave and Defence Force vice chief, Air Marshal Mark Binskin, is stepping in temporarily to oversee Operation Sovereign Borders.
Last night I dreamed
Of a 22 manned purple victory
Last night the deep blue nightmare
Took another 22 victims down
27th Sept; No information released by the Morrison Military Machine.
However the day is young and we live in hope of free, unfettered information. I have spent the night wondering if the 70 asylum seekers should be included in my numbers and have decided that that should be. They were on a vessel, they were trying to come to Australia to seek asylum.
The new list of arrivals show that THIRTEEN vessels have set out for Australia since the Abbott Governemnt was elected. and nearly ONE THOUSAND PEOPLE have sought asylum.
26th Sept; No information released by the Morrison Military Machine.
The Fifth Estate has been doing its job.
On Twitter @gordonthomsonci reported that “State Secret # 8 35 of about 80 incl kids off Navy RHIBs onto CI Jetty at 3pm CI time. Disembarkation of all should be completed by 3:30pm.“
Then in the evening firstly @vogrady2132 mentioned a rapid voyage by HMAS Ballarat to the North of Christmas Island and then @suemazzy1 alerted me to another incident involving a broken down vessel and 70 asylum seekers. Despite the original report disappearing from the ABC we have been able to find it buried at the bottom of another article.
(Mr Bowen said) “This is not an irritant to the Indonesian government; this is a clear matter of principle for them.” Mr Morrison is currently in Papua New Guinea ahead of a visit to the asylum seeker processing centre on Manus Island. Meanwhile, 70 asylum seekers have been rescued by an Australian Navy ship off the Indonesian island of Java. An official with Indonesia’s search and rescue agency says the boat got into trouble 40 nautical miles out to sea. Those onboard will be brought back to Indonesia, where they will be dealt with by Immigration Authorities and the International Organisation for Migration.
25th Sept; No information released by the Morrison Military Machine.
5.30pm WST Update. Just noticed the Hong Kong registered cargo vessel Mol Eminence has stopped and changed direction 50 Kn SE of Christmas Island.
I have added an insert from fifteen minutes later and from a higher resolution.
It could be a “man overboard”; it could be a short-lived engine failure; it could be one of Herr ÜberGrossenFührer Morrison’s national bborder emergencies. Maybe we will never know.
9.30am WST Chris Bowen alluded to an Asylum seeker vessel arrival in a News Conference this morning and Channel 9 last night reported;
“At least 19 suspected asylum seekers have arrived in Darwin in what is the first group of refugees to arrive under the new government’s policy. Nine News was given a tip-off late yesterday that a Customs vessel would dock in Fort Hill Wharf in Darwin Harbour and managed to capture footage of the refugees being offloaded from a ship before being placed in a bus that had its curtains drawn. It is the first boat arrival under the Abbott government’s controversial new policy which only releases information to the media and public until they are dealt with and shipped out. A Customs spokesperson told Nine News Darwin they could not confirm if the group were asylum seekers.” This would explain ACV Triton’s movements yesterday. Nothing further has been heard of the family which arrived in the Torres Straits last night.
24th Sept; No information released by the Morrison Military Machine.
LATE NEWS - I have received an unconfirmed late report that a family group of six asylum seekers have landed on Boigu Island in the Torres Straits by boat.
Nothing appears to have been happening amongst the naval vessels I was able to find. ACV Triton spent some time moored at Ashmore Reef but has returned to Darwin.
Gordon from Christmas Island brought a smile to my face today when he tweeted
We, the people, can never be defeated!
Just a general query. If an asylum seeker is detained off Cocos Island or Ashmore Reef, what is the first concentration camp he/she will be sent to?
Since there is no Shipping News today, here is some very good reading to be going on with. A blog post about Asylum Seekers as a National Assett!
23rd Sept; Information was released by the Morrison Military Machine.
Thin-lipped Herr ÜberGrossenFührer Morrison today officially announced from his never-smiling mouth that there would be weekly announcements of Asylum Seeker arrivals. His adjutant, the equally thin-lipped Jumped-up Three Star General Angus Campbell, confirmed the numbers recorded here in the timeline by confirming that 523 refugees had arrived since the election. Herr ÜberGrossenFührer Morrison also said, “There will be no information about whether boats are turned around.”
22nd Sept; No information released by the Morrison Military Machine. No information “discovered” by the MSM.
UPDATE 2PM WST ABC News Online is reporting a vessel intercepted by HMAS Maitland today. Number on board not available.
The Hazara Refugee Website reported yesterday that, “ As of Friday afternoon, sources on Christmas Island – to which asylum-seekers on intercepted boats are initially taken – were saying there had been no boats in recent days.“
I am taking steps to develop some contacts who may be able to help me in this project. I an concerned that it seems AMSA has been told not to report Asylum Seeker Vessels in distress as they have in the past. This means no assistance will be provided. Actually, I hope I have read the Herr OberMinister’s words incorrectly here. Certainly Customs have been told to cease press releases which concern Asylum Seekers.
The one source of information I think will remain open is the marinetraffic.com site. This is not an Australian site and so may be beyond the reach of our new censoring dictators. The major problem is that Australian Naval Vessels are spending a lot of time “offline” and so are invisible.
Having said that, that site is showing TWO naval Vessels (One un-named, the other the Patrol Ship HMAS Maitland) performing manoeuvres around 50Km East of Christmas Island. Neither has stopped or slowed below 5kts so it is unlikely to involve stopping Asylum Seeking vessels.
It is interesting that we hear so much about how expensive it is to rescue a yacht in difficulties to the South of Australia and yet there is no mention of the cost of ordering a couple of Naval Vessels to mooch around the Indian Ocean, travelling in ever-decreasing circles!
New Daily Cry For Help! If anyone knows of a source on Christmas Island who could help me with recording any arrivals or interceptions, please let me know about them
21st Sept; No boats reported in the MSM
There is a “cargo” vessel which has just arrived at Christmas Island. I shall keep watching. No activity has been spotted at Ashmore Reef or Cocos Island. Should anything new happen today I will update this report.
What has been reported in the MSM does not give one a lot of confidence in the new Abbott Government. The ABC has reported on Tony Burke’s frustration at not getting any information.
“The ABC asked both Customs and the Immigration Department whether any boats have arrived in recent days, but the questions were referred back to the Minister’s office. A spokesman for the Immigration Minister Scott Morrison would not say if any boats had arrived, and said further details about the Government’s Operation Sovereign Borders policy would be provided soon.“ On a different tack SBS has reported on dissatisfaction in PNG with the Manus Island agreement. This will not help in deterring people from setting out on dangerous voyages. If you can stand the continued bile of Mike Smith, this report was posted late yesterday. Smith headlined it “Report – Indonesian Police arrest 74 illegal Middle East boat-people bound for Australia” It seems that in the Right Wing Lexicon, it is not necessary to be on a boat to be a “Boat Person”. TRIBUNNEWS.COM, GARUT – A total of 74 illegal immigrants from the Middle East secured Garut police on Thursday (09/19/2013). Those bound for Australia via the Garut regency, was arrested in the District Leles. Garut District Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Arif Rachman said, the immigrants came from Lebanon, Iraq, Iran, and Pakistan. They consisted of 7 children, 45 adult males and 22 adult females. . . . . . . . .Arrest immigrants, said Supian, is the result of Garut police orders to deploy patrols and raids after a vehicle transporting 12 immigrants from Myanmar were secured in District Kadungora, the day before. SEPT 20th; Again nothing is reported in the MSM All of my sources are silent but it early in the day and a vessel is approaching Christmas Island from the North. I am wondering if it could be another of those strange “cargo vessels” which will perform strange manouvres around the Island over the next few days. There has been no activity around Cocos Island or Ashmore Reef either. For general information, Ashmore Reef (Ashmore and Cartier Islands) is located about a quater of the way from the southern tip of Timor Island to King Sound at S12.24 E123.00. SEPT 19th Nothing reported in the MSM Nothing new from any of my sources. Has a curtain of silence fallen over Asylum seeker matters? Or has the Manus Island solution begun having an effect? Tony Abbott does not consider “Day One” to be the day after the election but the day he was swarn in.
