Mitt Romney was the favourite to win the US Presidential race last November.
Accepted wisdom is that Americans hate underdogs and support winners.
History tells us that despite all the FoxNews propaganda, Mitt went and lost to the apparent underdog. Favouritism based on polling lies.
Speaking of dogs, it is said that you cannot teach an old dog new tricks.
Undoubtedly, the oldest dog in politics, other than Robert Mugabe is ex-Australian Rupert Murdoch. And he is living proof that those old dogs are, indeed, unteachable.
Here in Australia he is using exactly the same tactics as he did in his attempt to gain control of the USA. By making Tony Puppet the ultra-favourite candidate, Murdoch believes he is guaranteed a win on September 7th.
Hey, fellow Lefties and Rupert-despisers, I have some news for you all.
This is Australia. Rupert has forgotten the Australian way of supporting the underdog. I remember way back, some six or seven years ago, the Aussie Cricket team was unbeatable. While still cheering for “our” team, we all secretly hoped that the poor underdogs could pull off an upset.*
The growing shrillness of the Murdoch Press and the ABC (but I repeat myself) in favour of Abbott proves they perceive an underlying weakness in the Coalition position. From deriding everything done by the ALP to creating a lover of women, (Hmm, That is an image I do not need.) Rupert is continuing with the over-kill in support of Tony Abbott. Rupert has so convinced his minions of an inevitable victory that more and more we are hearing Tony Abbott being referred to as “The Prime Minister. The polls often do not make a lot of sense either.
The electorate, as a whole, is made up of Australians not Americans or Billionaires. When faced with the ballot-box, the rather large “undecided” proportion of the electors could well act as true Aussies and support the person they have been told continuously is the underdog. A sort of “Keep the bastards honest” reflex.
Rupert could well have his second major loss within twelve months. The FBI and Tom Watson will make sure he does not get another chance!
So, fellow lefties, don’t go shouting this from the rooftops and scaring the chickens.
However, do take note and keep the faith.
Greens 1, ALP 2 ( or the other way around) will do the job.
*Unless they were Kiwis or Poms.
