This list is based on what is being reported in the MSM and what I can find from a couple of specialist sites. This is to give a layman’s impression of what is going on and may say more about the MSM than the facts. One day soon, I shall ask the relevant Government Departments for authoritative information.
AUG 23rd; No boats reported in the MSM
Apparently the new L-NP three word slogan regarding Indonesian Asylum Seeker vessels will be BUY THE BOATS.
AUG 22nd; No boats reported in the MSM
The Hazara website reports that HMAS Pirie, operating under the control of Border Protection Command, rendered assistance to a suspected irregular entry vessel north of Christmas Island overnight. Initial reporting suggests there are 129 passengers and two crew on board.
AUG 21st; No Boats reported in the MSM
No refugee vessels reported anywhere. I did get a little over excited this morning when I saw a report of an Indonesian vessel being dismasted near Geraldton but that was the “KRI DEWARUCI”, an Indonesian Naval tall ship on its way to Fremantle. I must keep my eyes open and head down to the Port when it arrives.
AUG 20th; No Boats reported in the MSM
Late reported from Sunday 18th Aug;- The Hazara website has reported that; An asylum seeker vessel with 205 people on board has been intercepted by the Royal Australian Navy after the vessel sent out a mayday call on Sunday morning. The boat was about halfway between Indonesia and Christmas Island when it sent out a call for distress at 8.11am with reports it was sinking.
The Hazara Website has also reported (19th Aug); The ABC has been told Indonesian police have arrested three foreigners over last month’s asylum seeker boat tragedy. They are suspected of organising an asylum seeker boat that sank in rough seas last month off Cidaun on the south west coast of Java. A contact in Indonesia’s people smuggling task force says they have arrested three men – an Iranian called Naseem, an Iraqi called Abu Yunus and a Sri Lankan called Sinniah Vamadevan.

This is approx 150Km SW of Java and 250Km N of Flying Fish Cove.
Scott Morrison, Shadow Minister for Immigration, Racism and Killing People claims that this is all the Government’s fault. He refuses to accept that his many public statements have convinced some people smugglers and some refugees that the Manus Island solution is a failure and that people will end up on Australian soil! The Greens’ Spokesperson for Refugees will not see that she has assisted in this debacle. Sorry if I sound bitter but, as a Green I would like my Party to recognise that politics is the art of the possible, not the art of being a two year old demanding everything NOW! It is good to remember that some is better than none!
AUG 19th; No Boats reported in the MSM
Home Affairs Minister Jason Clare said on Friday only 300 had arrived by boat in the past week, down from 1000 after the policy was announced. In the same post, it was said “one people smuggler has told customers he is trying to find passengers for ”one last boat”. HMAS Parramatta has been performing some interesting manouvres off Christmas Island in the past 24 hours, as has the cargo vessel “Glorious Starlight”. That could mean two unreported asylum seeker vessels in trouble or being intercepted. There is no current AMSA alert for vessels in distress althougfh I may have missed some during the weekend.
AUG 16th; No boats reported in the MSM, or anywhere else that I can see.
I probably wont be posting an update until Monday as I have a very full weekend with Museums, Art Galleries and Grandsons featuring.
AUG 15th; No boats reported in the MSM
Two vessels were intercepted by HMAS Glenelg off Ashmore Reef yeaterday. The Hazara Website has the details. One of the vessels had 121 refugees on board, the other, 31. It seems the MSM may be holding all its reporting of Asylum Seeker vessels for the tragic occasion of a sinking. That is the only possible explanation. In the meantime, the People Smugglers may be using more seaworthy vessels.
AUG 14th; No boats reported in the MSM
The two vessels, Triton and Maryborough, have disappeared from The Live Shipping display and so may or may not be at Flying Fish Cove. The Hazara Refugee Website is not reporting anything new and, thank Gaia, not seen hide nor hair of Scott Morrison today.
AUG 13th No boats reported in the MSM
Now it is time to do an interim summary of what has been reported into the public domain.
I have created a chart and some clickable sources are noted below.
Hazara Website - Hazara Asylum Seekers Website

AUG 12th; No boats reported in the MSM.
Still no boats in sight in any of my sources. Nothing since 9th August. It seems the Indonesia/Christmas Island pipeline is no longer of interest to the Media or to the People Smugglers.
SHOCK REVELATION:- The Shadow Minister for Refugees and Racism has revealed that uncounted hordes of people will now begin swarming across the Torres Strait. Four reported arrivals on Saturday are apparently just the beginning. Now there will be thousands of illegal arrivals in the Torres Strait. Whether they are Asylum Seekers or attempted illegal immigrants is still to be determined at an official level. This has not stopped the immediate tirade from being launched. Asylum Seeker Vessels – The Ships which launched a Thousand Tirades!
AUG 11th; No boats reported in the MSM.
It seems to be a quiet Sunday. Triton and Maryborough are quietly patrolling in Flying Fish Cove, The Aust. Maritime Safety Authority has made no announcements (14.45 WST) and the Hazari’s have not added to their blog. The MSM, of course are making no comments at all. Just continuing to report The Shadow Minister for Refugees and racism who seems to want the Manus Island solution to remain secret.
AUG 10th; No boats reported in the MSM.
HMAS Maryborough and ACV Triton have both been dashing around Christmas Island like demented mayflies. I wondered about this and did some Google searching. I found a new site with lots of unreported information. The Hazara Asylum Seekers website. They report many more vessels being intercepted than the MSM! Yesterday (9th) for instance, they report on vessels at both Christmas Island and Ashmore Reef with 59refugees/5crew and 56/4 on board respecively. Just after midday (WST) today the AMSA site reported a vessel in distress around 180Km NW of Christmas Island. I had noticed that both Maryborough had vanished from my live map around lunchtime and Triton was on that NW heading around 70Km out from the Island. Something to look for in tomorrow’s MSM. It is now certain that the MSM, for their own purposes, are denying their readers information.
AUG 9th; No boats reported in the MSM.
ACV Triton is just offshore while HMAS Maryborough is not on the map – a similar situation to yesterday morning. Yesterday she reappeared after travelling South around mid-morning escorting the vessel briefly reported on 8th Aug. There has been no mention of that vessel in the print media. It certainly did not appear in the ABConlinenews feed.
AUG 8th; No boats reported in the MSM. No references to boats in distress on AMSA although HMAS Maryborough has arrived in Flying Fish Cove from the North.
The Age has recognised that there has been a “Drop-off in boat arrivals” with a comment from Minister Burke about a 100 person capacity vessel with 30 people on board leaving Indonesia around three days ago. ABCNews24 announced around midday that HMAS Maryborough had escorted a boat with 111 refugees to Flying Fish Cove.
AUG 7th; From AMSA 070000 UTC AUG 13 – ASYLUM SEEKER VESSEL WITH 117 PERSONS ONBOARD REQUESTING ASSISTANCE IN POSITION 06-55.1S 105-00.5E AT 062049UTC. ACV Triton is not involved. Interestingly, there are no boats reported in the MSM except for a report of 67 people arriving at Christmas Island on the ABC. Is this a single boat or is it two? I shall treat it as two boats with 184 people on board subject to further information. 117 of those people may be taken straight back to Indonesia.
Possibly two boats reported today. One in the Sundra Strait just 15 Km from Indonesian soil. I doubt if those 117 people will arrive on Christmas Island. The ABC report seems to indicate a second vessel although there was no alert issued by AMSA. Scott Morrison spent over half an hour on ABCNews24 around 9am WST trying to encourage the People Smugglers to send more boats to Australia.
Aug 6th; No boats reported in the MSM
Still no boats but there is a puff piece in the Murdoch Press. David O’Shea has written that the “Tough policy fails to sink in“. Every word from the leadership in PNG and Nauru is being over-analysed by the media and the L-NP to show confected inconsistencies and Scott Morrison is beginning to foam at the mouth because his business model has been destroyed! I repeat – Still no boats!
Aug 5th; No boats reported in the MSM
Ten days with only two boats since the Manus Island solution was announced. A survey of the National Dailies reveals no comment about the lack of boat arrivals or of the lives not lost. There is, instead, just a continuing beat-up of the allegedly brutal treatment of asylum seekers living in detention. To me the key word is “LIVING”! There was a boat which sank in Indonesian waters but the victims were Indonesian and the vessel sank between Indonesia and Malaysia.
Aug 4th; No boats reported in the MSM
PM Rudd signs a deal with Nauru to take an unlimited number of asylum seekers. Although Nauru has a population of only 10,000 one is beginning to wonder if there will be any overflow from Manus. If there will be any new flood of asylum seekers arriving by boat. I am waiting to hear the details of an increase in processing in Indonesia and subsequent resettlement, in a safe way, with no drownings, in Australia. Providing that that resettlement in no way affects the racist bogans of Western Sydney who have helped bring us to this terrible state.
Aug 2nd; No boats reported in the MSM
Aug 1st; Two boats reported in the MSM (100 people, 20Km sth of java ) (75 people off Ashmore Reef) Michael Smith has got an apparently legitimate report today while not even the Oppn Spokesthing on Refugees and Racism has mentioned any new arrivals. Only the movement of some old arrivals from Christmas Island to Manus Island. Late in the day I found reports of TWO vessels as shown above. Both reports were below news of Manus Island transfers. Not headlines.

July 30th; No boats reported in the MSM
July 29th; No boats reported in the MSM
July 28th; No boats reported in the MSM
July 27th; No boats reported in the MSM
JULY 26th; Report of “arrival of 1300 people on 16 boats since . . . the PNG solution on July 19.” and that Rudd has said the flow of boats was unlikely to stop before the election, whenever that is to be. In another report, the arrivals were set at, “Eight boats with 638 suspected asylum seekers on board have been intercepted since Friday’s the so-called PNG Solution came into effect.” It seems the print media may be a little astray with its numbers. Not having access to all the print media I am at a loss as to the real numbers.
JULY 25th; Tony Abbott released his “Operation Sovereign Borders” thought bubble.
JUNE 20; The Sydney Morning Herald stated – “So far this year, 12,194 asylum seekers have arrived on 180 boats.” That is around a boat a day and does not include boats which disappeared or sank in Indonesian waters. Yes! There was a major problem happening and drastic action needed to be taken to solve the problem and to save lives.
JULY 19th; Kevin Rudd and Peter O’Neill announce that all refugees who arrive via boat will, in future, be sent to Manus Island and have no hope of resettlement in Australia. Over the next three days, the Abbott-led Opposition went from disapproval to Approval and back to disapproval. The Greens’ Milne and SHY disapproved automatically and religiously stuck to their position.
