Australia is heading down a path which could see a “final solution” being applied to those poor human beings who are fleeing death in their homelands.
Within the Western Sydney Electorates (WSE’s), an ALP heartland which has become terrified of these strangers, these people, there is a major battle for the votes which will win or lose a Federal Election.
Since the first Sydney Day, 26th Jan, 1788, Australia has been xenophobic. For a couple of decades there was self-congratulation when the White Australia Policy was removed. The xenophobia was still there, beneath the surface until Pauline Hanson lifted the lid on the foetid cauldron of hidden hatred. John Howard saw the political advantage of that and became the first Prime Minister in half a century to promote racist policies.
Howard used Tony Abbott and his famous Slush Fund to remove Hanson and then espoused her policies. The racist underbelly of the Australian electorate has proven so powerful that to accept asylum seekers has become a short-cut to electoral oblivion.
Sorry, Greens. Compassion is so last century!
After accidentally falling into power after the 2010 election, the ALP has had to reverse all its compassionate refugee policies in the face of electoral oblivion in the WSE’s.
Re-introducing Temporary Visas, using off-shore processing and encouraging neighbouring countries to intercept the refugees are all moves which the ALP Government have taken to try to keep up with public opinion as fanned by the Opposition.
In the meantime that Opposition has been promoting ever more repressive laws to discourage the boats. Remember it is NOT a crime to seek asylum yet it is illegal to interfere with a boat on the high seas. Even if it is done by the Government of a nearby nation. Yet this is what the Opposition is using as its current discouragement-of-choice. “Turn the Boats Back” is becoming “Tow the Boats Back”.
Accepting that the Polls are honest and give a true indication of voting intentions, the Coalition will be in power after the September election. Scott Morrison will be the Immigration Minister and will be charged with stopping the boats. Something he has alleged that the ALP Government has been unable to do because it is “Soft on illegals”
Both a Coalition Government and an ALP Opposition will have to increase the severity of their attitude towards Asylum Seekers to gain or to keep the WSE vote. Morrison will need to stay ahead in this race. Especially as nothing done by Australia will stop refugees fleeing their home countries in fear of their lives.
At the moment seeking asylum in Australia is no crime. Scott Morrison is likely to change that. Firstly to make it a crime punishable by years in a prison, or perhaps in a purpose-built holding facility. A concentration camp, if you insist on honest words. Than, when that does not stop the boats, increasing the penalties from years to life.
And when that doesn’t work, and the ALP has made that their policy, there will only be one step left. Perhaps in five years, or possibly ten there will be -
A Final Solution.
If frightened refugees are guaranteed of an automatic sentence of death for arriving in Australia then perhaps, just perhaps, the flow will finally dry up.
And I am not convinced that there will be an outcry from the WSE!

Its also important to remember the method Tony Abbott applauds involed Australias S.A.S troops boarding vessels after a warning shot with canon or machine gun was fired across their bow to stop the boat. This is inherintly hostile & should never occurr with innocents on board. Then theres the fact Labor has been forced by the Coalition to reopen Nuaru, a centre the refugee Council CEO condemned as too expensive and operating harshest against the most vulnerable of people. (refugees).
BUT most telling is now that the Coalitions demands were pushed through and Nuaru was opened and is subsequently failing, Tony Abbott and Scott Morrison are suddenly dead quiet on the subject.
Scott Morrison making attempts under legal loopholes to be able to take the action he wants is perpetuating a crime against humanity, is THIS how we again want Australia viewed, as a disgrace on the world stage of Human Rights?
Its how they saw us under Howard during the Tampa crisis, its how they will view us again under Abbott.
Thanks for the comment. I am scared of the future an Abbott/Murdoch Government will give us. And it is likely to be a decade or more before the demographics even out and all the scared old people die off. Only then will we see the Left make a resurgence. But into what sort of society? Yes, I am scared!
But, but what /else/ can stop the Asian Horde which has no other place to go?
Here we have always called the Asiatic hordes the “Yellow Peril”. The sad thing is, in Oz, that it is now a religious thing. All brown people are Muslim and must not be allowed to pollute our pure Christianity.
