And I saw some interesting and surprising sights.
None more surprising than this A79 DH Vampire aircraft at a little town named Beverley, 130 kilometres east of Perth near the source of the Avon River. Founded in 1838, Beverley is one of Western Australia’s oldest settlements.
Vampires were phased out of the RAAF during the mid to late 1950′s.

I used to fly Vampires at Oakington FTS
They were Australia’s main fighter aircraft after WW2. As a young’n I was disappointed when that double tail disappeared from our skies. Were they fun to fly?
I don’t know anything about that particular plane, but I’d say the pilot made one helluva landing on those skinny poles.
