A Bit of Perth
Back to Queens Gardens in East Perth. Looking at some of my unpublished photos from my trip there a couple of weeks ago, I noticed something. Far from being simple ponds, the edges of the lakes have been engineered to provide safe nesting sites for the many waterbirds who have made Queen’s Gardens their home [...]

Tough Times
The economy is so bad that: I got a pre-declined credit card in the mail. Wives are having sex with their husbands because they can’t afford batteries. I ordered a burger at McDonald’s and the kid behind the counter asked, “Can you afford fries with that?” CEO’s are now playing miniature golf. Exxon-Mobil laid off [...]

A Bit of Perth
I have always been taught that Perth has a Mediterranean climate. A sight like this on the banks of Claisebrooke convinces me.

Macabre Humour
I enjoy wandering through second-hand book stores. Sometimes I find genuine treasures. Unluckily, most store owners recognise the gems before I spot them. A case in point was a very expensive book I found a while ago. At $115 it was a little rich for me although it was an almost mint copy published in [...]

Bunbury Sightseeing
Right on the edge of the Southern coastal city of Bunbury in Western Australia are these two peaks. It is summer at the moment so there is no snow on them. The giant birds which breed on their heights still come down to sea-level to feed on passing cetaceans.

A Bit of Perth
I am fascinated by what holds bridges up. So I always try to look under them. This is the Claisebrooke pedestrian bridge with what I assume are a pair of water-pipes running underneath.

The Argus Crossword; 1 Jan, 1951
I have found a source of olde tyme newspapers. The Argus from Victoria, Australia had crosswords from 1938. However, the quality of the images was too poor to use on the archive. So, about once a week, there will be a Argus Crossword here on the archive. I will try to do them in order. [...]

The Maidens
I’ve been in Bunbury for a few days. And I discovered the Maidens. Apparently there is a story behind them but a tree-sized lump of wood got in the way.

BBC Quiz of the Week
Spent an enjoyable day with the new grandson this week. Also spent some time thinking about our weather. While every untimely death is one too many, I won’t show the Queensland floods as the death toll of 20 pales into insignificance when compared with Brazil’s loss of more than 700 people. We are ignoring Global [...]
