Photo Hunt; Aftermath

We put our hopes and our dreams into the things we build.

Our job, our business and especially our home.

Yet, after we are gone, how long will those things last?

Even the most substantial bricks and mortar are subject to weathering and decay in the aftermath of a human life.

Me? I would rather be remembered by my family, by the people who know me and by the words I have written and the photographs I have taken.

  3. Oh I love photos like that. I always enjoy driving by little ruined houses like that. I wonder who lived there, and when it became a ruin. :)

  22. Reminds me of Ozymadias:

And on the pedestal these words appear:
“My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!”
Nothing beside remains: round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

    Very nice photo.

  23. Theme aside this is a gorgeous photo!

  24. Beautiful shot. I always wonder about the stories of the people who lived in long forgotten places.

  27. I often lamented the fact that it seemed that the “permanent” constructions of mankind would forever mar the face of our planet.

Then one day as I rode my bicycle down an abandoned asphalt highway and noted the stress heaves, the cracks and the flora growing up through them, I realized that nothing man can ever build will withstand the forces of mother nature.

And I gained a measure of peace from that thought.

  28. Where was this taken? I love the sweeping meadow.
