The evening following the eclipse, almost an hour after sunset, the moon rose as normal into an early darkened sky.
Still close to the horizon, it was showing the effect the Earth’s atmosphere can have on the light coming from the moon.
The distortions are there every moonrise. It is rare that we can see them as clearly as they are shown in this image.
