Photo Hunt #109; Any Photo

This is a mean trick!

I only have about 25,000 images to go through to find one for this week’s hunt.

Wandering through my digital collection, almost at random, I found a shot which, while I didn’t shoot it myself, I am at least in the frame, and it was my camera.

As many of you know I have spent much of the past six years in the desert. Beside a giant, normally dry, salt lake. In a small community which could become claustrophobic after a month or two.

Sometimes, of an evening, it was necessary to get away. One of my ways of escaping was to play golf.

Drive about ten bright pink balls 200 metres out into the lake and then, six iron in hand, walk around chipping them back to where I had begun.

The surface I am standing on is a thin layer of common salt (NaCl) which stretches for about three kilometres in front of me, this being just a narrow bay in a lake which covers over a thousand square kilometres.

  1. You have to find something to do to preserve your sanity. Pink golf balls seems as good as anything.

  2. pink golf balls? takes a manly man to do that! GREAT shot!

  3. I think everybody will simply love the bright pink golf balls, lol.
Those huge extensions are mind blowing…
Great shot, I know this week’s freedom wasn’t helpful in finding one picture…
    Happy weekend!

  4. Whoa…this is awesome! Try using fluorescent yellow balls sometime, too. Looks like a lot of fun.

  5. excellent entry, white balls would be a problem

  6. Oh, that is a fun photo. Red golf balls, have you tried neon ones :D

    Have a great weekend.

  7. Golfing on salt flats! Hmmmmmmm, now that’s worse than a sand trap.

For my photo hunt, my sweet cheeks and I are celebrating our 40 year wedding anniversary. Stop by for a piece of our wedding cake.

    Happy weekend.

  8. I like this … thought it was snow.
    Have a nice weekend!

  9. Congratulations Hootin’ Anni … we did ours a couple of years ago … ours is 42 this year. We’re dinosaurs, you realise. ;-)

  10. Yes, white golf balls would be a tad counter-productive I should think. Nice to see your lake like that.

  11. am i the onoly one who thinks your cute legs are worth commenting on?

  12. Awesome shot…way to go

  13. I love that shot. The wide open theme was hard with so many different ways to go with it. I enjoyed your post.

  14. The colors in this are surreal!

  15. Whoa! That’s some sand trap!

  16. That is incredible - I thought it was snow on the ground! Terrific photo!

  17. Terrific image and very inspiring!!! Golf at Turcot Yards? Have a very long fairway for sure, though the rough would be, uh, rough. Lot of potential I say!

Thanks for deciding to go with this one.

  18. Thank you everyone - those pink balls were so that they could be seen against the white salt. I tried orange and green but they were not as visible as the pink - anyway, it was all about three years ago. Good memories, though.

  19. Oh, and nurse myra, my short fat hairy legs should not be commented on :)

  20. I’m late but it’s still Saturday here. That is a remarkable place for a “golf course” but Aussies are good at making do.
By the way I love the “flowering” pine. I miss parrots, we have very dull birds in Canada

  21. What a place to hit some golf balls! But… if it gets you away - it’s perfect, isn’t it? Love the photo!

  22. Wow, that’s some golf course! Thanks for visiting.

    Have a great week.
