In the past week the beloved and extremely Liberal Pauline Hansen has resurfaced in the Sea of Politics. Last December Kudelka noted what had become a rare sighting of the fish’n'chipppie.
In other news, it has indeed been a hard year for nerd1 as nerd2 challenges him. It will be interesting to see what the fall-out from nerd2’s visit to a New York Gentleman’s Club will be.

It looks like Pauline’s back and just in the nick of time. Johnny’s ageing government is getting back its unofficial Minister For Australians Who Don’t Like To Be Called Bigots just in time for the next federal election. Hopefully she’ll be able to inject some new policy directions and with his trusty Pauline-to-English dictionary, Johnny will be dog-whistling up a storm just like old times.
However, 2007 is still going to be a tricky election year. Having gone windbag, invisible man, lunatic and recycled windbag as opposition leaders, the ALP have finally decided that it takes a nerd to beat a nerd.
Rather than just stealing all Pauline’s policies like last time, John needs to create some visual differentiation and actually become Pauline. A quick makeover involving a fright wig, a makeup trowel, a crimplene wardrobe and a reasonably firm blow to the head should do the trick.
This cartoon engendered one of the best comment columns I have ever seen! Head on over and check it out. There is some great Aussie larrikin stuff going on.

I took your suggestion. you’re right about the comments
I also took your suggestion … and I hope they were only kidding! The thought of Pauline back in the fray is scary, to say the least. One always wonders about supporters of fish’n'chips ladies who think they are more intelligent than they really are. I know … my daughter is one (very evil grin). And I know I’ll be splifficated for this comment!
Seriously, isn’t Howard bad enough without adding her to the primodial soup which is our current Parliament? I know she’s only going for the Senate, but really!
nursemyra, my prescriptions are often quite enjoyable.
buff, It seems to be a continuing thread – good old Aussie disrespect
Buff: The thought of Pauline back in the fray is scary
Be scared; she IS back in the fray. And she is registering a new party so that she can appear “above the line” on the QLD Senate voting paper.
I’ve been watching this development with interest, since a very good friend, Larissa Waters, is the Greens’ lead Senate candidate in Qld. In order for Larissa to win, she has to displace either:
Andrew Bartlett (Dem, fond of Xmas party drinkies and hi-jinks on the floor of the Senate, but generally quite intelligent) or
Ron Boswell (NP, now in the vulnerable 3rd position on the recently-agreed joint Lib-NP ticket)
The one good thing about Pauline running is that she may make Ron Boswell’s position more precarious and thereby improve Larissa’s chances.
Mike, thanks for that. Sometimes over here in the West we get so caught up in our own situation we lose sight of the subtleties in the other states.
Mike, my complete support for Larissa … although I live on the far side of the Continent. You go, girl … get rid of Boswell! He really is a nasty piece of work and so far up Howard’s fundament it is obscene! I just hpe the pair of them get their come-uppance and don’t get their deposits back!
