Being lost in the day to day non-election campaign which deals with so many short term problems, we are losing touch with some of the long-range problems. Kudelka reminds us of one of the more important threats to our future.

ARTHUR: Knights of Ni, we are but simple travellers who seek the enchanter who lives beyond these woods.
HEAD KNIGHT: Ni!
KNIGHTS OF NI: Ni! Ni! Ni! Ni! Ni!…
ARTHUR: Ow! Ow! Ow! Agh!
HEAD KNIGHT: We shall say ‘ni’ again to you if you do not appease us.
ARTHUR: Well, what is it you want?
HEAD KNIGHT: We want… a shrubbery!
It seems that the PM has enlisted the Knights Who Say Ni as the cheer squad for building nuclear power stations. The chief argument seems to involve shouting Ni! as loudly and often as possible every time some latte-sipping smarty pants points out one of the various glaring holes in the idea.
That said, the suggestion that people go and pick themselves up a shrubbery is the most sensible thing anyone’s said so far. With 25 nuclear power stations proposed by 2050, there are going to be a hell of a lot of disappointed NIMBYs over the next few decades.
A nice thick shrubbery would be just the thing to screen off any unsightly nuclear power station over the back fence, and when the plants start biting the heads off any unwary pets, that will be a good sign it’s time to pack up and move to a marginal electorate.

Hahahahaha! I just lurve it … I can relish the thought of taking the chain saw to the nasty alien shrubs which have taken over our beloved Parliament!

Presumably la Buffe worries also about the native Weeds in Parliament
Buff, excellent thought. Now if only the whole electorate feels the same way.
Herr g eaGle, It has been intimated to me that a blogger in charge of unpublished raincoaters risks defenestration upon publication of the same. As for removing the weeds from Parliament, to a student of History, it should only be necessary to mention that the chief weed is a Howard!
Ur … um. So generally being in favour of nuclear power isn’t a good thing on this blog? No reason I ask …
We all know how much you “love” old J. Howard; here is a report that might interest you (guess who the childs parents are?)

Come to think about it:
Build reactors, the plant bushes around them and all the risks, problems and dangers are gone!
Wonderful idea hahaha or is it?
Metro, I have marched against the proliferation of Nuclear Power. I have thought and read profusely upon the matter. I have come to the conclusion that Nuclear Power is not a good idea at this time and with current technologies. However, discussion is always good. Not that any of the highly intelligent and erudite readers of the archive could possibly actually support Nuclear Power
John, Good one – that is the sort of “intervention” that doesn’t get talked about. As for the reactors – Perfect, until seven mile island or chernobyl happen again – but it won’t be next door to Kirribilli! We can be sure of that.
